Muhtasari huu unatoa taswira fupi ya tathmini ya mchango wa ushirikishwaji wa wananchi katika mifumo badilifu ya utoaji wa huduma za maji safi na maji taka (WATSAN) nchini Tanzania. Tathmini hii imefanyika katika wakati muafaka ambapo pamoja na kuwa na zaidi ya muongo mmoja wa utekelezaji wa maboresho ya sera ya maji, machache yanafahamika kuhusu: Mosi, namna ambavyo wananchi wanashiriki kwenye michakato ya utengenezaji na utekelezaji wa maboresho ya huduma; na Pili: mchango ambao jamii unatoa kwenye utoaji wa huduma husika. Taswira hii inatokana na kitabu kilichojikita kwenye uchunguzi wa kina wa huduma za Maji Safi na Maji Taka uliofanyika katika kata ya Kawe, manispaa ya Kinondoni, nchini Tanzania. Utafiti ulitumia fasihi na maandishi mbali mbali kuhusu maboresho ya utumishi wa umma, ushirikishaji wa wananchi na nadharia ya kihistoria ya mfumo wa kitaasisi, katika kuwasilisha na kuchambua kwa kina utekelezaji wa dhana na sera ya ushirikishwaji wa wananchi, mahusiano kati ya watendaji wa kitaasisi na wananchi kwenye utengenezaji na utekelezaji wa maboresho ya sera utoaji wa huduma za maji safi na maji taka katika eneo la tafiti husika.
