Assessment of Village Level Sugar Processing Technology in Tanzania

The Institute of Production Innovation (IPI) and the Faculty of Engineering (FoE), both of the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) innovated a plant for processing crystalline sugar from sugarcane, at the village level in the mid-1980s. Fourteen such plants, as of 1999, have already been manufactured by IPI, twelve were installed and among them, some are operational in different parts of Tanzania.
