REPOA is currently seeking applications from interested individuals for a Consultancy for editing REPOA publications written in English language
REPOA is a Tanzanian Think Tank established in 1994 whose mandate is to improve the lives of people through policy research. The mandate encompasses research work and active engagement in policy dialogue on promoting socio-economic transformation for inclusive growth. Our primary research areas, which revolve around the production of policy knowledge and evidence, are grouped into three interrelated strategic research areas:
• Natural resources as foundation for economic growth and socio-economic transformation, which includes agricultural land, minerals, oil and gas, forestry, wildlife and fishery;
• Industrialization, enterprise development, and employment as pillars for economic growth and socio-economic transformation, which entails manufacturing, trade, SME development, informal sector upgrading, and labour market dynamics;
• Governance systems and social policy, with focus on social protection, accountability and service delivery.
Editing briefs, reports, special papers, books, book chapters, working papers and journal manuscripts for publication.
These publications are written for an audience with a tertiary level of education, the majority of which do not use English as their first language. The audience is worldwide and includes those working for central government, development partners, researchers, academics, local government employees, employees of international and national level NGOs and CSOs, and the media.
Scope of work
I. To edit REPOA publications to convey the logic and sense to readers
II. To edit the material for consistency and correctness
III. To paraphrase texts in such a way they can be informative
Payment will be made in two instalments for each edited publication
• First instalment on delivering edited REPOA publications with and without track changes
• Second instalment on submitting at least a two-page editorial report for each edited publication
Outputs of the assignment
Good REPOA publications in British English language
This assignment begins in mid-November 2018 and ends in March 2019, but the selected contractor will be retained for such assignments after March 2019. In other words, he/ she will sign a retainer contract. This assignment is not full time.
a) Holder of a bachelor’s degree in English language, or Literature. Master’s degree or above in English language or Literature is desirable.
b) A minimum of 10 years of experience, after graduating, of working closely with research or academic institutions, particularly the press or publication centre
c) A minimum of 10 years of experience in any of the following fields of policy studies, economics, sociology, law, political science or English language teaching.
Mode of Application:
Interested individual consultant should submit the following to the undersigned no later than 31st October 2018
a) A short 2-page (maximum) response to this call that proposes how the consultant will undertake this assignment.
b) A brief description of similar work done indicating the date, nature of exercise and client
c) An up-to-date curriculum vitae of the consultant.
d) Original or certified copy of academic certificate of the highest level of qualification attained.
e) Three samples of publications that reflect the ability of the consultant to edit material for academic and non-academic audiences. Two academic publications and one for non-academic communities.
f) The time investment per page for editing
g) Indicative timelines for the execution and completion of the assignment.
The evaluation of the proposals assigns a weight of at least 80% to the technical proposal and 20% to the financial proposal.

Expression of Interest clearly marked “Expression of Interest (EOI) for consultancy services to edit REPOA’s publications written in English language can be submitted either in soft or hard copies in a sealed envelope at the address below by 31st October 2018. The EOI should include technical and financial proposal.
