The current Strategic Plan (2010-2014) identifies the themes of Growth and Poverty, Vulnerability and Social Protection, and Governance and Service Provision as strategic areas of research for REPOA and respective research programmes have been designed for implementation over the duration of the Strategic Plan.
Each research department undertakes three core clusters of activities namely; undertaking research, capacity building for researchers and to facilitate dialogue, knowledge access and utilisation.

For the capacity building of researchers, each department provides research grants and designs specific training courses for beginning and intermediate researchers depending on identification of needs in relation to the research to be undertaken.
Lastly, each department organizes knowledge sharing and dissemination events and participates in events organized by other stakeholders with a view to promote dialogue on key development issues and wider access and utilization of the knowledge generated.
