REPOA is currently undertaking a survey under the title “DNA finger printing”. The purpose of the study is to track the diffusion and adaptation of improved rice and maize seed varieties especially those whose release were supported by the Program for Africa's Seed Systems.

This study plans to achieve this objective by comparing farmer’s knowledge of the seeds they use, and the actual DNA material extracted from the crops gathered from farmers’ fields. At the moment a team of qualified and trained personnel is in the field talking to smallholder farmers from various parts of rural Tanzania.

This project is funded by Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) through the Melinda and Gates Foundation
